Contributors

Kristina Ketola Bore joined Kunsthall Stavanger in 2019, coming from a background as a curator, writer, and editor. Since then, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the institution’s curatorial and strategic direction. Her work at the kunsthall includes exhibitions and commissioned projects with artists such as Lex Brown, Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca, Cindy Ji Hye Kim, Nnena Kalu, Laurel Schwulst, and Farah Al Qasimi, among others.

With a sustained interest in social practice, Kristina has significantly expanded the institution’s educational initiatives—growing the team, structuring a comprehensive program, and launching Mobilizing Citizenship, a practice-based research project for youth focused on civic engagement through art.

A key advocate for digital innovation, Kristina has been instrumental in developing Kunsthall Stavanger’s digital platform, commissioning and curating online works such as ‘Mouthpiece’ (2022) by Stine Janvin, a participatory digital performance, and the series ‘Queer Culture Year: Even When We Can’t We Must’ (2023).

Beyond her curatorial work, Kristina is a central force in the ongoing development of Kunsthall Stavanger as a forward-looking institution. She also serves as deputy chair of Kunsthallene i Norge, contributing to the national discourse on contemporary art and institutional development.

A Reflection on Mobilizing Citizenship
How Youth Workers Create Meaningful Encounters for Young People

Delali Ayivor is a Ghanaian-American writer, archivist, and information systems designer. Her work is grounded in her lived experience growing up in the Global South, where access to mainstream flows of information were often fractured, tenuous, refracted, or distorted. She wrote once of Ghana: ‘this is as West Africa is, constantly trapped somewhere in the binary of finite and fracture.’ Thus, her work—like her country and herself—is fundamentally concerned with the structural: intersections, frictions, overlaps, and sites of disjuncture.

She is a 2024 graduate of the Pratt Institute School of Information with an MS in Library and Information Sciences; a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy and Reed College, a 2011 US Presidential Scholar in the Arts, a 2020 Tin House Workshop Scholar, and a member of the second class of Kehinde Wiley’s Black Rock Senegal residency. She currently lives and works in Accra, Ghana.

Self as Archive: A Workshop on Erasure + World-Building

Chire “VantaBlack” Regans' art practice exists at the intersection of social justice and storytelling. Her work responds to urgent societal concerns and functions as a critical platform to amplify the voices of community members who are often silenced. Over the past decade, Chire has focused primarily on community advocacy and depicting social narratives without distortion in various mediums. For Chire, a Saint Louis native, the birth of the Black Lives Matter movement triggered a sense of urgency in her art practice. Her work continues to evolve, allowing for broader social accessibility and creative scale. In South Florida, Chire continues to marry her artistic practice with community-led activism, emphasising the art of storytelling as a means of engaging with communities with radical empathy and transparency.

Let Me Be for You What I Needed When I Was Your Age

Lee Heinemann is an artist and administrator working to expand opportunities for artists. In 2014, he founded Get Your Life!—a collaborative, youth-centred video production company that put practising artists to work producing projects written, designed, and directed by middle school students in Baltimore, Maryland. He worked as the Education Director of the Baltimore nomadic museum The Contemporary, which produced Get Your Life! in 2016 and 2017. Get Your Life! was in residence in the Baltimore Museum of Art with an exhibition, publication, and a series of public programs from 2018 to 2019.

Lee was the manager of Artist Relief, a national emergency relief fund that distributed over $23 million to artists at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. He served as Initiatives Manager at United States Artists, contributing to the research, development, and administration of new resource programmes including Disability Futures and the Maxwell/Hanrahan Awards in Craft. He is now Program Director of the artist-led organization A Blade of Grass.

Lee has hosted, moderated, and spoken in conversations at the Baltimore School for the Arts, Creative Time Summit, and the DisUniversity lecture series in collaboration with Dis and the Baltimore Museum of Art. He has created programming for a range of cultural organizations including Oolite Arts and Kunsthall Stavanger and produced public artist commissions with the City of Miami Beach and the High Line, New York. He is a Presidential Scholar in the Arts and received a BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture from the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Introducing the Mobilizing Citizenship Toolkit

Lex Brown is an artist working in visual and performed verse.

She has performed and exhibited work at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC; the New Museum, the Kitchen, the High Line, the International Center of Photography, and Recess in New York; the MIT List Center, REDCAT Theater and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles; the Baltimore Museum of Art; and at the Munch Museum in Oslo.

She was a 2021 recipient of the USA Fellowship and is a 2025 Rome Prize Winner. Her first short opera, Tati (composed by Kyle Brenn), premiered in the Washington National Opera’s 2024–25 season at the Kennedy Center.

Brown holds degrees from Yale University (MFA) and Princeton University (BA). She is the author of My Wet Hot Drone Summer, a sci-fi erotic novella that takes on surveillance and social justice.

Consciousness, a survey of Brown’s work spanning the past eight years, was published by GenderFail. Containing documentation from 46 different videos and performances, as well as 33 original song lyrics performed in artist-run spaces, museums, music venues, and galleries, it has been acquired by the collections of the Met, MoMA, Whitney, and SFMOMA, among other notable collections.

Brown has taught in the Visual Arts programme at Princeton University and in Art, Film, & Visual Studies and Theater, Dance, & Media at Harvard University.

Hey, Hey, Look at Me!: Lex Brown on Clowns, Citizenship, and the Power of Play

Loni Johnson is a multi-disciplinary visual artist, educator, mother, and activist born and raised in Miami. Through movement and ritual, she creates healing spaces for Black women and explores the role of ancestral and historical memory. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from SUNY at Purchase College School of Art and Design.

Johnson is the Lead Coordinator of Art Detectives—an arts education programme rooted in the framework of Social Justice at Perez Art Museum (PAMM) Miami. She is also Prevention Coordinator of the youth arts prevention programme at Concept Health Systems, and Chairperson for the National Visual Arts Selection Panel for National YoungArts Foundation. In addition, she is one of the founders of Miami Melanated Arts—a collective of Black artists who are creating space to reimagine effective and impactful arts eco-systems in South Florida. She continues to work with community organisations such as Girl Power, S.O.U.L Sisters Leadership Collective, and Voices United by providing youth the opportunities to find and nurture their identities and creative voices. She received a Knight Champion Award in 2019 and is a frequent guest speaker, lecturer, facilitator, and performer.

What We Hold Sacred: A Workshop on Altar-Making
Let Me Be for You What I Needed When I Was Your Age

Mikey Kirkpatrick is a musician (singer, flautist, composer, performer) and associate lecturer in music and education at Goldsmiths. His research and practice focus on how music and deep listening can be healing for individuals and communities. Mikey has performed on hundreds of streets and stages internationally and has composed for film and theatre. During the pandemic he gave over 200 regular live improvised flute broadcasts as a sonic shelter for listeners. Mikey founded Alchemy in 2017 with support from Goldsmiths Widening Participation, a weekly workshop programme that offers professional creative music training and youth work support to young people facing barriers, delivered by a diverse team of professional artists, mentors, and students. In 2023 he founded the Alchemy Masters programme (thanks to the support of the Vernon Ellis Foundation), offering paid training to young artist mentors, empowering them as facilitators and creatives with the aim to support them into employment and/or further education.

Are You Listening? Deep Listening as Youth Pedagogy

Trine Ottosen is an experienced youth worker and educator with a background in Norwegian, history, and political science. Since 2012, she has been actively working in Sola municipality, managing youth clubs and supporting young people’s development. Trine has been a dedicated member of Youth Work Norway’s National Board since 2011 and has served as the organization’s president since 2019, leading efforts to strengthen youth work across the country. Since 2019, Trine has also contributed her expertise to the Mobilizing Citizenship programme, empowering young voices through creative and civic exploration.

Walk of Shame (WOS) is an artist collective based in Bergen, Norway, working at the intersection of visual art, performance, and social space. Their practice explores participation, community, and the aesthetics of excess, often creating immersive environments that blur the boundaries between audience and performer. With a playful yet critical approach, WOS stages works that challenge conventions of taste, behaviour, and collectivity, inviting participants into transformative and unpredictable experiences.
